Omonia faces Celje tomorrow (October 15, 7:45 p.m.) in Slovenia as part of the second matchday of the Europa League group stage.

The “Greens’” coach, Henning Berg, spoke at a press conference ahead of the match.

Speaking on behalf of the players was Slovenian left back Jure Balkovec.

Here are the statements in detail:

Henning Berg

Opening remarks: “Of course, we’re looking forward to these matches. It’s something we experienced last year as well. The opposing team qualified for the Round of 16 as group winners, and this past summer they had a similar run in the Champions League. They may not be getting the results they’d like in the league, but they have many good and experienced players. It’s a match we’re eagerly looking forward to.”

On whether Omonia is close to its first away win in the Europa League: “You can’t know right now how things will turn out in the future. We’re extremely happy with the match against Celta. It was a huge victory for us against a team that’s in the top five of La Liga. The fact that we achieved this was great and gave us a fantastic experience and wonderful feelings. We gave it our all in that game, and we’ll do the same tomorrow. It’s too early to start looking too far ahead. We’ll focus on each match individually and do our very best tomorrow. After that, we’ll look ahead to the match against Celtic, which is a great experience for us. We’re certainly motivated, though, and our goals haven’t changed. We’ll try to give our best in every game. We want to be competitive in the league, but also to go as far as we can in the Europa League.”

On the three-week break: “It’s hard to comment when a player has played every game for his national team. The break helped us prepare for the schedule that followed.”

Jure Balkovec

“Celje is definitely stronger now; they’ve always been a tough opponent—even back then, it was difficult to come here and face them, let alone now that they’re a stronger team, and we know we’re in for a tough game.”
