Mathieu Valbuena described today’s match between Olympiacos and Marseille as the “game of love” in an interview with a French media outlet.
The French star—naturally—was referring to the special affection he has for both teams, for which he has played, and to which he feels emotionally “connected.”
“What does Marseille–Olympiacos mean to me? Before I wore the Olympiacos jersey, it didn’t mean much to me, beyond the fact that they were a tough opponent in European competitions. But then I played for the Greek team, and things changed.
I’m still in Greece; I live here and have kept in touch with many people. Olympiacos means a lot to me, of course, after Marseille. The love shown by its fans is more or less the same as that shown to me by the Marseille fans. For me, it’s the game of love,” he said in his first remarks, and continued:
“Last season I went down to the second division to help the younger players, even though I was close to the first team. I have a long history with this club—a relationship built on love and passion,” he added.
