ALPHANEWSLIVE

Another event in the successful series “Youth Ask,” organized by the Bank of Cyprus as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program.

The initiative’s primary goal is to give young people a platform, highlighting important issues and concerns that are on the minds of students today. Through an open and meaningful dialogue, young people have the opportunity to ask their own questions, express their concerns, and hear the views and experiences of people with specialized knowledge on issues that affect the present and, above all, their future.

At the center of this year’s discussion was one of the most pressing issues of our time: the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence and how it is expected to influence education, employment, and careers in the coming years.

The event is also part of the SPOUD-ZO exhibition, which is supported by the Bank of Cyprus and organized by the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth on October 17.

The keynote speaker at “Young People Ask” was Elpidoforos Anastasiou, Head of Educational Innovation for STEAM & Emerging Technologies at Globeducate, Head of Innovation at Pascal International Education, founder of the Cyprus Space Foundation, and a Ph.D. candidate at the Cyprus University of Technology. As a pioneer in the application of Artificial Intelligence, space science, and STEAM technologies in education, he shared his knowledge and experiences with the students regarding technological advancements and their impact on education and professional life. He is also the creator of TEYKRO, the first interactive AI museum guide developed by the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation.

Also participating in the event was Marilena Ioannidou, Manager of Rewards & Organizational Effectiveness at the Bank of Cyprus, who discussed with the children the challenges and current needs of the job market, as well as employment prospects at large organizations in Cyprus. Special emphasis was placed on the skills that are becoming increasingly important in a work environment that is constantly transforming with the help of technology.

The main topics discussed were:

  • The evolution of Artificial Intelligence and, in particular, its impact on the labor market.
  • The changes that Artificial Intelligence may bring to existing professions and jobs, as well as the need to adapt to these new realities.
  • The new skills and knowledge that future workers will need.
  • The role of education and academic studies in preparing young people for a constantly changing professional environment.
  • Students’ concerns, questions, and reflections regarding the development and evolution of Artificial Intelligence.

Through the “Young People Ask” initiative, Bank of Cyprus continues to create opportunities for meaningful dialogue with the younger generation, giving students the chance to stay informed, reflect, and better prepare for the changes that are already shaping the education, work, and society of tomorrow.
