No damage was caused by yesterday’s bad weather, representatives of agricultural organizations told CNA, noting that the rainfall so far has been beneficial for the agricultural sector.
“The rains have been very beneficial for every sector,” said Panikos Hambas, Secretary General of EKA, making special mention of wheat farmers as well as other crops.
As he noted, the only problems reported involved some farms in Lybia, where the power was out for several hours; however, he pointed out that the EAC has addressed the issue.
“There was a lot of rain, especially in the mountains. For now, the rains are beneficial,” he said, noting that “the soil is absorbing the water; for now, it isn’t releasing it.”
For his part, PEK President Christos Papapetrou stated that no significant damage had been reported. As he told CNA, he also spoke with the Department of Agriculture, noting that if any damage had occurred, it was negligible, which is why it was not reported.
