The Cyprus Red Cross – Limassol Branch announced the official launch of the new Transportation Program for People with Mobility Impairments, at an event held on October 14, 2026, at the Cyprus Red Cross headquarters in Limassol, and honored the program’s sponsors, Island Energies and the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, for their valuable contribution.

The program is aimed at individuals residing in the Limassol district who face mobility or cognitive challenges and lack the means for necessary transportation. It covers transportation to and from hospitals, rehabilitation centers, clinics, and doctors’ offices, as well as to events and other necessary destinations. Transportation for an accompanying person is also provided.

Through this service, the Limassol Branch aims to help improve the quality of life for those it serves by facilitating their access to essential services and their participation in social life.

The program has already completed 270 trips within the Limassol district, from July 2026 to the present.

The vehicle was purchased with a grant from Island Energies, while the program’s operating costs are covered by a grant from the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation.

The President of the Limassol Branch, Ms. Doria Charalambous, stated in her speech: “Access to basic services and the ability to participate in daily life are of vital importance to every person. The initiative to launch the program in the Limassol district came from the former Branch President, Ms. Olivia Papadaki, who took all the necessary steps to bring it to fruition. We thank her warmly for her significant contribution. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors, Island Energies and the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, who brought our vision to life and helped create a service that provides tangible support to people with mobility challenges.”

The CEO of Island Energies, Mr. Chrysostomos Papavasiliou, stated: “At Island Energies, corporate social responsibility is a fundamental principle of our operations and is translated into targeted initiatives that address substantive social needs and produce a lasting positive impact. Our support for the Transportation Program for People with Mobility Challenges is a concrete expression of our commitment to enhancing accessibility, social inclusion, and equal participation. It is a great honor for us to collaborate with the Cyprus Red Cross to implement a service that ensures safe transportation and contributes significantly to the dignity and autonomy of our fellow citizens.”

Mr. Marios Misirlis, Coordinator of the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation in Cyprus and an associate member of the Foundation, stated:

“At the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, we believe that philanthropy gains true value when it translates into actions that improve the daily lives of our fellow citizens. It is with great pleasure that we support this important program of the Cyprus Red Cross—Limassol Branch, contributing to its seamless operation. The 270 transports that have already taken place demonstrate just how essential this initiative is. On behalf of our founder, Sir Stelios Hatzioannou, we warmly congratulate the Cyprus Red Cross on its valuable work and are delighted to contribute to an effort that offers dignity, autonomy, and a better quality of life to people in need.”

The Cyprus Red Cross – Limassol Branch extends its warmest thanks to the sponsors for their support in implementing the program, as well as to Print Point, which volunteered to handle the exterior brandingof the vehicle.
