Gianni Infantino made a statement before the FIFA Council during a three-hour meeting in Zurich, regarding his plan for the commercial exploitation of the World Cup.
The president of the world governing body expressed regret that he had not informed the Council members of his intentions in a timely manner. However, his apology does not seem to have been enough to quell the backlash from the European soccer community.
Among those who continue to call for his resignation is the president of the English Football Association, Debbie Hewitt, with discontent persisting despite Infantino’s efforts to defuse the situation.
