Petevinos on the new stadium, investment plan, financial situation, and Paphos

Statements by the APOEL press officer

Nektarios Petevinos addressed the speculation surrounding the investment plan in statements he made to SPOR FM 95, clarifying that no financial support has been provided to APOEL, as there is still no agreement between the companies.

As the “blue-and-yellows’” press officer noted, discussions are ongoing with the aim of finalizing the agreement, while he acknowledged that the team’s financial situation remains particularly difficult.

At the same time, he commented on the submission of an application for a zoning permit for the new stadium, and ahead of the match against Paphos, he sent a clear message of victory and provided an update on the team’s status.

In detail:

On the match against Paphos: “It’s an away derby. It’s a series of matches we’ll play at GSP in the second round. We’re not satisfied with our points tally. Paphos is a quality team, but to achieve our goals, we must secure results on the road and overcome tough challenges, such as the one against Paphos. We’re heading to “Paphiako” for the three points.”

On the match: “Three days before the game, I’d say the coach has more options than in previous matches. Mancini and Marquinhos are getting closer to being ready. Barak and Carillo have no issues. Sastre and Stafylidis will be in the squad as usual. Laifis has completed his rehabilitation program and is following the regular training schedule. Everything indicates that he will be available to the coach as usual.

Pieros has begun the countdown. He has started training with the ball and will soon rejoin regular practice sessions. Kattirtzis is returning from Athens, and we hope he’ll be ready shortly before the start of the playoffs.”

Regarding the stadium: “The application for a zoning permit has been submitted, along with a package of documents. The architectural plans have been finalized, and all consultations have been completed. The application has been submitted, and the urban planning authority will request confirmations.

There is a heavy workload involved in obtaining the infrastructure permit. This is yet another important step for the “YELLOW and Blue” project. The company in charge of the project is striving to ensure everything is done correctly. These are things you learn along the way to avoid mistakes. The architectural plans were completed several months ago. Every agency that received the plans reviewed them and provided its own recommendations for changes. You have to talk to municipal authorities, government agencies, and many others. It’s a massive project, which is why it’s taking so long.”

Regarding the meeting with Liasis: “The process is entering a new phase, which involves intense discussions and the exchange of documents to finalize the text. At the last meeting, the key points for its formulation were identified. Another step has been taken. If the process is completed next week and the final text is finalized, then we will announce the meetings.”

Regarding the denial of reports about financial support from investors: “Due to the media reports, we were forced to issue a denial. We recognize the desire to act in APOEL’s best interest, but often this need becomes an opportunity for misinformation to spread. For the investment group to transfer funds, there must be an agreement. That could not have happened. Journalistic reports must be verified. We were forced to protect the public.

A parallel process is underway for a written agreement, which will be part of the broader agreement. These are things I’ve said time and time again. I don’t want there to be any speculation.”

On financial matters: “The investment in APOEL is one of the most pressing issues in Cyprus right now. The situation is very difficult. The process began last March, but it actually started even earlier with the ‘8.’ Throughout this entire period, a great deal of effort has been made to secure revenue. A great deal is being done, with hard work and dedication, to address the financial constraints, and the public should understand this.

Solutions have been found so far, but the situation remains difficult. Clearly, all of this has been achieved with the contribution of every part of the APOEL organization, starting with the most ordinary APOEL supporter. APOEL is a massive organization. At the moment, there is an investment proposal under discussion. It is said that there is a delay, but no such agreement has ever been reached. I am referring to an agreement between companies.”
