Maria Sakkari fought hard but was unable to complete the comeback, losing 2-1 in sets to Maja Hwalinska (Poland, No. 22) in the quarterfinals of the Wuhan tournament.
The winner of the semifinal will face the winner of the match between Iga Swiatek (Poland, No. 9) and Ann Li (USA, No. 31).
The first set was a nightmare for Sakkari, as she was broken right off the bat and was then unable to mount a comeback, losing the first set 6-0 in just 30 minutes.
