The Cyprus Handball Federation (CHF) expresses its deep sorrow, concern, and deep dismay regarding the arson attack on the property of International Referee Giorgos Panagidis. He is a man of integrity, a model of ethics and professionalism.

The Federation condemns in the strongest possible terms any act of violence, intimidation, or threatening behavior directed against any person, particularly when it may be linked to that person’s involvement in sports. Such actions are absolutely unacceptable, violate the principles of sportsmanship, and have no place in the world of handball.

The Hellenic Handball Federation (KOH) expresses its full solidarity and support for the referee and his family, condemning any action that threatens the safety, the personal dignity, and the property of those who serve our sport.

At the same time, we demand an immediate and thorough investigation of the case by the competent authorities, with the aim of solving it and identifying those who may be responsible, so that justice is served and it is ensured that such incidents do not go unpunished.

The Federation states clearly and decisively that, should it be determined that the incident is linked to handball or to individuals active in the sport, it will immediately take all appropriate measures and decisions, within the scope of its authority and regulations, with zero tolerance for such behavior.

The protection of referees, athletes, coaches, officials, and everyone who serves the sport of handball is a non-negotiable priority for the Hellenic Handball Federation (KOH). Disagreement with refereeing decisions or any other sporting development cannot and must never serve as an excuse for threats, intimidation, or criminal acts.

Handball has always been—and must remain—a space of respect, safety, ethics, and sportsmanship. The Federation will continue to work consistently and resolutely to protect these values.

Violence and intimidation have no place in sports. Safety and respect are the responsibility of us all.

Cyprus Handball Federation (KOH)”
