The inauguration of the national supercomputer “DAIDALOS” at the Lavrio Technology and Culture Park of the National Technical University of Athens, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
“DAIDALOS” has a measured computing performance of 85.69 petaflops, ranking 31st worldwide on the TOP500 list and 23rd on the Green500 ranking in terms of energy efficiency.
It is housed in the new Data Center, located in the historic building of the former Lavrio Power Plant, and constitutes a significant computing infrastructure for the country.
The project is being implemented by the National Network for Technology and Research Infrastructure (EDYTE – GRNET), with a total budget of 58.9 million euros.
It will provide computing resources to universities, research centers, startups, and small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as public agencies, supporting scientific simulations, big data processing, and the training of artificial intelligence models.
At the same time, it serves as the computational core of the Greek AI factory PHAROS, which connects the infrastructure with tools and expertise for the development of applications by the research and business communities.
The project is part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” and is funded with the support of the European Union through NextGenerationEU and the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (JU).
