Olympiacos BC issued a statement regarding the lawsuit filed by Despoina Giannakopoulou against the team’s vice president, Giorgos Skindilias, regarding the events that took place at the SEF in June 2025, during the second game of the Basket League playoff finals.
The “Red-and-Whites” announced that the lawsuit was deemed baseless and has been definitively dismissed, while also taking a swipe at Dimitris Giannakopoulos.
The statement:
In June 2025, we all witnessed the unthinkable behavior of D. Yannakopoulos during his visit to the SEF for the second playoff final.
His hasty escape from the arena was followed by the filing of spurious lawsuits, in which the perpetrators posed as the victims. His daughter, Despoina Giannakopoulou, also filed such a complaint against Georgios Skindilias, Vice President of the Olympiacos Basketball Club, demanding, in fact, that the summary arrest procedure be followed—a move that led to his arrest and transfer to a police station while he was recovering from surgery.
We then issued a statement in which we stated that “Olympiacos BC and its Presidents neither threaten children with sexual acts nor coerce them into filing false complaints.” Vindication was not long in coming. Despoina Giannakopoulou’s lawsuit was ruled groundless and definitively dismissed. As for the actions of D. Giannakopoulos, they have been referred to the competent court for adjudication.
While others spend their time on social media chasing likes and followers, Olympiacos BC and its management prefer to turn to the impartial Greek justice system and await its verdict.
