Panathinaikos BC issued its own response to the statement from Olympiacos BC regarding the incident involving chants directed at Despoina Giannakopoulou last summer.
The “Greens” maintain that Despoina Giannakopoulou was vindicated regarding what she endured, while noting that the prosecutor in charge accepted as true both the chanting of the slogans and the reposting of the relevant video on the official pages of Olympiacos Basketball Club.
At the same time, they clarify that, according to their position, the prosecutor did not find any intent to defame on the part of Olympiacos BC regarding the posting of the video, resulting in the opening of a criminal case against the individuals responsible for the chants.
Finally, Panathinaikos BC leveled strongly criticized the “red-and-whites” for their statement, citing inaccuracies and essentially demanding an apology for what had happened.
The “green” club’s position in detail:
“Despoina Giannakopoulou sued representatives of the Olympiacos Basketball Club for the offensive chants directed at her last summer. In fact, she was fully vindicated regarding all the disgusting treatment she endured. The prosecutor in charge accepted as absolutely true both the fact that the despicable chants were directed against her and that, officially, Olympiacos BC, the very next day, reposted them on its official pages!
What the prosecutor pointed out was that he found no intent to defame on the part of Olympiacos BC regarding the posting of the video in question and proceeded to open a criminal case against the actual perpetrators ofInstead of being ashamed of its actions—which the prosecutor describes in detail—
—in keeping with its usual tactics—instead of offering an apology so many months later, it issues inaccurate, ridiculous statements that insult the intelligence of anyone with even a basic understanding of the situation.
We didn’t expect anything better. That’s just how they are…”
