The special refrigerator installed next to the morgue at Paphos General Hospital is intended for the temporary storage of bodies, which are being transferred from the department’s cold storage rooms as part of repairs to the alarm system, and will remain there for four days, according to OKYPY, which also notes that it meets all required specifications.
The OKYPY Press Secretary, Charalambos Charilaou, issued this clarification following posts on social media regarding the installation of the special refrigerator in the morgue.
According to Mr. Charilaou, “the need for the temporary transfer of the bodies arose due to work that must be carried out on the cooling chambers’ alarm system.” The goal, he said, “is to repair it so that timely notification is ensured in the event of any malfunction.”
He added that the work involves transferring the bodies, disinfecting the area, repairing the system, and returning the bodies to the cold storage rooms. The entire process is expected to take about four days.
The OKYPY spokesperson also assured that the special refrigeration unit meets all required specifications and that all appropriate measures are being taken to ensure the safe temporary storage of the bodies during the work.
