Fourteen people were killed and seven others were injured in a landslide that caused tunnels to collapse at an illegal gold mine in Colombia, local authorities announced yesterday, Monday.
The accident occurred in the town of Chambero in the municipality of Santa Bárbara de Iskuante, in the department of Nariño in southwestern Colombia.
Department Governor Luis Alfonso Escobar announced that the search and rescue operation has been completed.
Accidents are common in Colombia’s illegal mines due to a lack of safety measures. In August, 13 people were killed at another illegal gold mine in Nariño.
