It was Real Madrid that persisted even when it was on its own, despite the fact that the European Super League project, following backlash from fans and clubs, had collapsed like a house of cards within just a few days of its announcement in April 2021.
Real Madrid and Florentino Pérez decided in February 2026 to tear up all the documents related to the plan with which they had intended to cause enormous damage to soccer and UEFA, since Barcelona had also decided not to be part of that plan.
Now, according to The Athletic, the “Merengues” are seeking compensation from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham.
These were the clubs that were set to participate in the European Super League but withdrew immediately upon hearing the public outcry; in fact, they apologized to their fans for the massive upheaval caused in 2021.
The Madrid club is trying to get some… damage and is reportedly seeking compensation from the six aforementioned English teams, since they withdrew from the project, which had been set up at significant financial cost.
