Barcelona’s perfect record across all competitions was brought to an abrupt end by Paris last night (4-2) in Matchday 3 of the Champions League group stage. Hansie Flick acknowledged the superiority of the European champions.
“It was a fantastic game by both teams. Paris showed that they’re a better team than us. We lost, but we learned a lesson. Mistakes happen. However, what we’ve achieved in recent weeks is fantastic. The match wasn’t easy—the players ran a lot and tried to play soccer. As for our recovery after the game against Sevilla, things didn’t go as well as they could have. That’s no excuse, but we have to learn from it. It’s October, and titles aren’t won in October—the Champions League is won in June,” said the German coach.
“They have a lot of quality, especially in the transition from defense to attack… we tried to defend. However, in the last 15 minutes, we lacked freshness. That’s no excuse. We need to examine what happened after the match against Sevilla—we didn’t prepare in the best possible way. We need to analyze it and improve in the future. Toward the end, in the last 10 minutes, the team’s performance dropped off and we conceded the fourth goal. Despite that, I saw a lot of positive signs. We have potential. I’m not being negative. It was a good experience. We need to do better,” he added.
