Benfica is coming to Cyprus to face Omonia in the third matchday of the Europa League group stage (October 22, 10:00 p.m.).
The team’s coach, Marco Silva, spoke at a press conference ahead of the match at GSP Stadium and described the “Greens” as a quality team that got off to a good start in the competition.
Here’s what he said in detail:
On the absences: “We don’t have much to add to what you already know. Bantzakis, Enzo, Kaminski, Leandro, and Duran will not be available. It’s a significant number of absences, unfortunately at a crucial time when the schedule is becoming particularly demanding.”
On the possibility of changes: “In certain positions, we won’t have the same options as before. We need to find solutions. Some players will have to shoulder a heavier workload. The decisions for tomorrow have almost been made, but we’ll see what the final starting lineup will be.”
On Omonia: “Our goal is to win against a quality team that got off to a very good start in the Europa League and has six points, just like us. Tomorrow’s game is the most important one for us right now.”
On the problems in midfield: “Leandro was in my plans for tomorrow’s game until 48 hours ago. He’s a very important player for us. With him out, along with Enzo, things get tougher. But it’s an opportunity for other players, possibly even for young players from our academy.”
On Benfica’s performance: “We’ve put in several good performances. The first half-hour against Vitória was excellent, as was the first half against Celtic. The team continues to improve, and the players have embraced our philosophy. We still have a long way to go and plenty of things we need to improve.”
