Margarita Thanos, attorney for Panathinaikos BC, expressed her views on the Greek basketball scene in a post on social media.
Her reaction came following reports that arrest warrants had been issued for six individuals, including the president of the Greek Basketball Federation (EOK), Vangelis Liolios.
In her statement, Margarita Thanou chose to focus on the workings of the justice system, while also making pointed remarks about what she claims the Panathinaikos side has been facing for years.
Here is what she wrote in detail:
Today we won’t talk about stolen goods.
Today we won’t talk about the dozens of complaints, legal actions, and lawsuits filed by Olympiacos BC against Panathinaikos BC and D. Giannakopoulos in defense of EOK, Liolios, Tsarouchas, Papapetrou, and others.
We won’t talk about the announcements, the motions for recusal, or the sarcasm directed at sports judges regarding everything Panathinaikos and Giannakopoulos have been screaming about for so many years.
We won’t say a word about the dozens of months of stadium bans, the millions of euros in fines, or the attempt to wear down the madman when he was shouting and no one was listening.
Today, with genuine emotion, pride, and relief, we’d like to say thank you to the independent, Greek judiciary, which does its work with integrity, diligence, and discretion, in offices often without heat, without enough clerks, and without even photocopiers. To officials who honor the education they received and the oaths they took. They are the majority, and we Greek citizens rely on them; we trust them, and they are the shield of our democracy. It is a heavy and disproportionate burden, but they persevere.
You have destroyed everything we have loved for so many years, but…
Today is a beautiful day.
