Employees of the Social Welfare Services affiliated with PASYDY have decided to grant a vote of confidence to Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Tina Pavlou. A delegation from the Social Welfare Services Employees’ Branch, led by PASYDY General Secretary Stratis Matthaiou, held a meeting with Ms. Pavlou.
According to a statement, “during the meeting, the Deputy Minister demonstrated that she was aware of most of the long-standing issues facing the Branch, focusing in particular on the heavy workload, the problematic and, in many cases, dangerous building facilities, and other critical problems that our colleagues are called upon to manage on a daily basis.”
“The Deputy Minister asked us to grant her the necessary time to develop a plan to address all the issues that were raised. Given the Deputy Minister’s commitment to finding effective solutions, we are obliged to grant the necessary time, as a gesture of good faith and out of respect for labor institutions and the ongoing dialogue. Pending the fulfillment of the Deputy Minister’s commitment, PASYDY will not participate in the 24-hour warning strike announced by our colleagues in the ISOTITA union, even though we agree with the issues they raise, as they are part of our long-standing demands on which we have repeatedly taken a stand.”
The union, however, warns that “if it becomes apparent that all avenues for consultation have been exhausted without any prospect of consensus, then we will have no choice but to take decisive countermeasures.”
