A video has surfaced showing the incident in which police officers fired shots at a car carrying women accused of stealing diapers in the U.S., resulting in thekilled 1-year-old Cohen Wiley, who was in his mother’s arms.
The tragic incident occurred on June 14 in the town of Senatobia near Memphis when police received a call reporting that Velesia Wiley, the infant’s mother, and her friend, Latoya Ferrell, had stolen a package of diapers.
The video shows police officers surrounding the vehicle and calling on the two women to stop. The footage appears to show that the driver attempted a maneuver by moving toward the officers, causing them to open fire; one of the bullets fatally wounded the little boy.

The video was released to the public on Monday, when the office of Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitz announced that the shooting “was justified.”
According to police reports, Wiley lifted the infant to show that there was a child inside the car. The same documents describe how Officer Hunter Foster fired into the vehicle, killing Cohen Wiley and wounding Ferrell.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, which investigated the shooting, claimed that the driver “moved toward the officers, nearly striking one of them.” However, civil rights attorney Ben Crumb, who represents the family, released an independent autopsy report, according to which Wiley was shot from the side of the car and not from the front.
