The Police are informing the public that today, Thursday, October 22, 2026, a protest will be held on the topic of occupational safety and health.
The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the PEO offices in Nicosia. Afterward, participants will march along Digenis Akritas Avenue, with the Ministry of Labor as their final destination.
Police officers will be on site to implement the necessary security and traffic control measures, as well as to facilitate traffic flow.
The public is urged to avoid, whenever possible, traveling through the affected areas, to exercise patience, and to comply with the instructions of police officers.
It should be noted that, pursuant to Law 151(I) of 2025 on Public Gatherings and Parades, the organizer of the assembly or parade is required to ensure its orderly and peaceful conduct, to cooperate with the local administrative authority within whose jurisdiction it takes place, or is expected to take place, with the Police and the Officer in Charge—who is designated as the liaison between the Police and the organizer—and to comply with their instructions.
Furthermore, this legislation allows the police, where deemed necessary, to impose restrictions on the assembly or procession, as well as to disperse it, especially when such gatherings cease to be peaceful, when they are held in violation of the imposed restrictions, when there is a risk of bodily harm to a person or damage to public or private property, and in the event of a spontaneous or emergency gathering or procession, when there is a failure to comply with the restrictions imposed.
Furthermore, in cases where there is reasonable suspicion that the gathering is about to become non-peaceful, due to the actions of a person, or in connection with the commission, or possible commission, of offenses by a person who conceals, disguises, or alters their features in such a way as to render them unrecognizable, the Police may order that person to remove the object, product, or device in question that renders them unrecognizable.
