"An underhanded attempt" to smear his name and undermine his integrity, is how young AKEL MP Efrem Christou describes the disparaging social media posts regarding his financial disclosure statement, which includes bank deposits totaling €10 in abank account and a vehicle valued at €7,000.
Speaking on the Alpha News program and responding to mocking comments, he described the amount in his bank account as perfectly reasonable, explaining that he is only 24 years old and that he filed his financial disclosure statement immediately after taking office, at a time when he was not working and was a graduate student.

Mr. Christou noted that thousands of young Cypriots face difficulties in saving money due to low wages, high rents, and a cost of living that has reached an all-time high.
He noted that getting involved in politics does not require someone to come from high society or a wealthy background, and emphasized that there are ordinary people, children of working people who have the right to represent the people, without spending hundreds of thousands of euros on election campaigns
