Anorthosis spokesperson Charalambos Parpetas spoke to “SPOR FM 95.0,” referring to the change in coaching staff and the arrival of Barak Itzaki. At the same time, he emphasized the need for an immediate response from the players ahead of the match against Omonia Aradippou, while also providing an update on the team’s current situation.

Regarding the change in coaching staff: “Mr. Maniatis also made a statement before the May 29 game against Omonia that set the tone regarding the administration’s thoughts and concerns about the team’s performance and. The team failed to meet the demands of the match that followed, and the management felt that a change was necessary so that the team could perform in a way that reflects the effort being made at all levels. We believe the players’ potential is greater than what they’ve shown, and we believe things can change with the arrival of the new coach. Barack Itzaki is familiar with Anorthosis; he used to play for the team, and that helps because he understands the great weight and stature of the club. He is also familiar with the Cypriot league. He was joined by an assistant, Mr. Borja Lema, who holds a UEFA PRO license. There is a possibility that another member of his staff will join as well, and that will be clarified today.”

On whether they expect a change in mindset: “What we primarily discuss with a coaching change is a shift in morale, but the management chose him because he meets the criteria—and not just in terms of morale. He had an outstanding track record at Beitar when he took over the team in a difficult situation. He led them to a 4th-place finish; the following year, they finished in 2nd place, and overall, he has received nothing but the best reviews and recommendations.”

The president also reminded the players of their responsibilities: “The responsibility falls on everyone, including the players. We need to see a response against Omonia Aradippou; we want the fans there to support the team, and for all of us to come together as one to get out of this difficult situation. That’s why the change was made. We want to make a fresh start, see some passion, and ensure the greatest possible effort is made. Words no longer matter—it’s actions on the field that count.”

On the team’s current status: “Setin has picked up the pace and is following the regular training schedule. It’s now a matter of readiness and rhythm. Bergström is out due to an Achilles tendon injury. He has encountered difficulties in his recovery progress and with the individualized program he tried to follow. Van Neef is also following a specialized rehabilitation program due to an abdominal injury. Michalis Ioannou, following his serious injury, will begin a personalized training program this week that includes running, and his condition will be reevaluated in a few weeks.”
