Paris Saint-Germain faces the possibility of disciplinary sanctions from UEFA, following an official complaint by Barcelona regarding banners displayed by the French team’s fans at the “Parc des Princes” during their Champions League match.
According to a report in the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo,” UEFA is expected to impose penalties on the French club, which may include a fine, as well as the possibility of a partial closure of the stands at its home stadium for its next match in the competition against Roma (Nov. 25, 10:00 p.m.).

It should be noted that the large banner hung behind one of the goals depicted a gigantic, masked figure, which was a reference to either Michael Myers from the movie “Halloween” or Leatherface from “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” The figure was dressed in the colors of Paris Saint-Germain and was holding a chainsaw, with which it appeared to be destroying the Barcelona crest. The banner was accompanied by the phrase “Parisian Massacre,” while smaller banners with offensive slogans against the “Blaugrana” were also visible in the stands.
For its part, Barcelona announced that it would file a formal complaint regarding the incident, arguing that the banner in question runs counter to the principles of respect and fair play that should govern soccer.
At the same time, UEFA’s disciplinary code provides for sanctions against provocative messages that are inconsistent with the nature of sporting events, and holds clubs responsible for maintaining order and safety within their stadiums.
