Results from the State Chemical Laboratory are expected later today for samples taken from the hospital where a case of Legionnaires' disease was detected, according to Michalis Mendris, a microbiologist and member of the Ministry of Health’s Epidemiological Surveillance Unit, speaking on the Alpha News program.

“We’re waiting for them so we can assess the situation. If the results help us and we can get a clear picture, then we’ll draw a conclusion so we can know exactly what happened. If we need further tests, we’ll proceed with more specialized ones. But these results are very important.”

He notes that this particular clinic has suspended operations and is following all safety measures to ensure the safety of all patients.

Regarding the health status of the newborn diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease, he reports that the infant remains hospitalized in critical condition.

When asked whether the risk of other newborns becoming ill has been ruled out, the doctor answers in the affirmative and notes that they remain on high alert.
