The House of Representatives approved, as an emergency resolution, a resolution condemning the illegal Turkey-Libya memorandum and calling for immediate European measures against Turkey.

The resolution was submitted by Nikolaos Papadopoulos and Christiana Erotokritou on behalf of the DIKO party.

The resolution was approved with 44 votes in favor. House Speaker Annita Dimitriou said that today the House is sending an important message with unity and determination.

Meanwhile, a letter of protest addressed to the Speakers of the Parliaments of the member states of the European Union (EU), the parliaments of Arab states, and international and regional parliamentary organizations was sent on Thursday by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Annita Dimitriou, following the Libyan House of Representatives’ approval of the so-called 2019 Turkish-Libyan Memorandum of Understanding on the delimitation of maritime zones of the two states in the Mediterranean.

The Turkish-Libyan memorandum undermines the rights and interests of several countries in the Eastern Mediterranean, stated Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, in a phone call with Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kompos.

In a post on X, Saar described the conversation with his “friend,” the Cypriot Foreign Minister, as positive.

“We discussed the Turkish-Libyan maritime demarcation agreement, which undermines the rights and interests of several countries in the Eastern Mediterranean,” he wrote.

He added that they also discussed bilateral relations between Israel and Cyprus, as well as Israel’s relations with the European Union.

“I will continue to work to strengthen the close ties between Israel and Cyprus,” added the head of Israeli diplomacy.
