A system and algorithm will be used to count the valid signatures collected by the two candidates for the DISY internal party elections, as reported by Xenia Konstantinou, Deputy Press Spokesperson for the Democratic Rally, from the studio of the Alpha News program.
When asked whether the 3,000 signatures submitted by Averof Neophytou would also be reviewed, Ms. Konstantinou explained that the verification is carried out by an automated system using a specific algorithm, which will check whether the required number of signatures per district and all other conditions have been met, specifying that once the validity of the application is confirmed, the count will stop.
When asked if she had signed in support of any candidate, she replied in the negative, clarifying that no one had asked her to sign.
Regarding the internal party elections in DISY, she notes that all members who registered before August 30, 2026, are eligible to vote, and the total number is just under 49,000. A total of 79 or 80 polling stations will be set up in all districts, in the major communities of Cyprus, as well as in Athens, Thessaloniki, and London.
Ms. Konstantinou notes that if a voter wishes to vote at a polling station other than the one where they are registered, they will be able to immediately transfer their registration within the polling station. “The transfer can take place immediately, the system can be updated, and anyone who wishes to do so can exercise their right to vote wherever it is most convenient for them,” she says.
“A great deal of effort is being made to ensure the process is transparent, democratic, and fair. These are the guidelines, these are the recommendations, and they are very strict for everyone. Each candidate may have their own observers and representatives at all polling stations.”
Ms. Konstantinou opposes the disclosure of which candidate each DISY official supports, with the aim of maintaining party unity.
“I feel very strongly that we need to move forward in a united manner. This really pains me and is of great concern to me.”
When asked what would happen if the party’s candidate held a different view on a particular issue than that of the DISY leadership, she stated:
“The candidate will have his own press representatives. We’ll have our own as well. But we’ll strive for as much unity, unanimity, and consensus as possible; if the candidate says something we disagree with—and this is a matter of principle—if it’s something different, we’ll say so, and let the candidate bear the consequences.”
