President’s intervention regarding the larnaca marina: The government is in constant contact with the legal service

The goal is to address the legal issues that have arisen and to find a solution immediately

The government is already in constant contact with the Legal Service to address the legal issues that have arisen and find a solution immediately, so that planning for the development of the port and marina of Larnaca can proceed according to the established schedule, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis, told CNA on Friday.

Responding to a question on the matter, Mr. Letympiotis said that President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides had spoken by phone earlier today with the Mayor of Larnaca, during which he briefed him on the actions that have already been set in motion, underscoring the Government’s determination.

“The government remains fully committed to implementing this important project, which is of strategic importance for the city, the economy, and the development prospects of the wider region,” concluded the Government Spokesperson.

Furthermore, in a post on social media on Friday afternoon, Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras referred to a phone conversation he had with President Christodoulides, noting, among other things, that “The President assured me that the plan remains unchanged. The project will be implemented by the Cyprus Ports Authority, as we agreed and in accordance with the agreed roadmap.”

“He told me that he is in contact with the Legal Service and that by Monday, the manner in which the legal issue will be resolved will be announced, assuring me that a solution exists,” added Mr. Vyras.

It should be noted that the Legal Service’s opinion, which was at the center of the discussion during Thursday’s Transportation Committee meeting, recommends holding an open tender for the transfer of the marina premises by the state.

Specifically, the Legal Service’s spokesperson, Rena Papaeti Hatzikosta, stated that “if the state wishes to grant the development of the marina, it must hold a tender, and if the Ports Authority is interested, it must submit a bid.”
