Eirini votes for dimitris “dangotos”! Here’s what he says and what he did about the signatures on the Averof-Pamporidis documents

Charalambidou clears up the misunderstanding with pamporidis and says he is a very good colleague

Eirini Charalambidou, a member of parliament from the “Alma” party, is offering strong support to Dimitris Dimitriou, the parliamentary representative of the Democratic Alarm Eirini Charalambidou, in the hypothetical scenario that he wishes to run for the presidency in the 2028 elections. As she herself admitted on the “Alpha News” program, even if she were to decide tomorrow morning, she would stand by his side, speaking of “unwavering trust.”

“I would trust Mr. Dimitriou because I’ve fought alongside him on the Institutions Committee and have witnessed his character and integrity. These are two very important qualities in a politician: the courage to raise one’s hand when one’s conscience dictates that the right thing must be done, rather than simply following party lines. Mr. Dimitriou possesses this character, and yes, I would support him.”

When asked if she would support Mr. Dimitriou should he attend a memorial service for Georgios Grivas Digenis, Ms. Charalambidou replied that this was a hypothetical question and countered with her own: “Have you ever seen him at a memorial service for Grivas?” At the same time, she expressed her personal opinion that Odysseas Michailidis, as leader of “Alma,” should run in the 2028 presidential election and made it clear that she herself is not considering such a possibility.

“I’ve ruled it out; I’m not interested.”

Ms. Charalambidou also commented on the developments within DISY, saying that she would sign the statements of support for the candidacies of Averof Neophytou and Giorgos Pamboridis for Pindarou’s “endorsement” for the presidential election.

“I’ve known one of them for 40 years; I work with the other in Parliament, and he’s a very good colleague.”

Her statement prompted journalist and TV host Katia Savva to point out that her position vis-à-vis AKEL was very different when the possibility of supporting Giorgos Pamboridis in the 2023 presidential election was raised.

“There was never a personal issue with Mr. Pamborides. What I had said—which turned into a whole story and even led to a circular being issued against me—was this: If Mr. Dimitriou had said, ‘I would vote for an AKEL candidate,’ and, moreover, as a member of the Central Committee, wouldn’t that have caused a stir within DISY? I stated the obvious, and it caused a 7.7 magnitude earthquake on the Richter scale.”

“Earthquake, earthquake, alarm!” was the response from Dimitris Dimitriou, who revealed that he had signed on behalf of both candidates vying for the DISY “nomination,” as it was his own recommendation to members of parliament and party officials “to maintain an equal distance.”

Joking, Mr. Dimitriou suggested a “pole vault competition” between Irini Charalambidou and Odysseas Michaelides, with the highest jumper being required to enter the electoral race.

“We’ve fought battle after battle with Ms. Charalambidou—battles that reveal both character and personality. All of this is hypothetical.”
