For many adult third-country nationals living and working in Cyprus, limited knowledge of Greek continues to be a significant obstacle in their daily lives.

The need to learn Greek is reflected in the data from the first cycle of the “Greek for Me” program, which recorded over 1,700 registrations, while more than 300 learners took the Greek proficiency exams. This response highlights the importance of access to organized language education programs, which facilitate social integration and enhance people’s autonomy in their daily lives.

The strong interest in learning Greek continues this year as well, with demand for participation in the program’s second cycle remaining particularly high. In total, 1,000 adult learners from across Cyprus enrolled in the program for the 2026–2027 period, with classes having begun in September 2026 and already being conducted successfully in all districts. The strong response confirms the ongoing need for language education and the interest of adult third-country nationals in acquiring the skills that will enable them to participate more actively in the social and professional life of Cyprus.

The program is implemented by the Center for Social Innovation (CSI), in collaboration with the State Institutes of Further Education of the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth. The courses are offered at Greek language proficiency levels A1, A2, and B1, with an emphasis on developing language skills that meet the real communication needs of adult learners.

Knowledge of the language of one’s country of residence opens doors to communication, access to services, education, and employment. It enables people to develop social relationships, take advantage of opportunities, and participate meaningfully in the life of their community. The ongoing demand for Greek language courses in Cyprus serves as a reminder that language education is an important investment in a society that offers greater opportunities for everyone to participate.

For more information about the program, interested individuals can visit the website www.greekforme.org or contact their local State Institutes of Continuing Education.
