Seventy pieces of jewelry, including rings, earrings, bracelets, and necklaces were found in the possession of the 24-year-old, who was arrested following an operation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Limassol Police Department.
Investigators obtained information that the stolen property from the gang-style robbery at the Russian mansion on October 8 had ended up in the hands of this individual. The suspect, who was brought before the Limassol District Court this morning, confessed to investigators that one of the three fugitives had instructed him to keep the property in his custody.
“The investigations revealed that a large portion of the assets had been located, with the exception of the cash. According to the testimony we have before us, the perpetrators were attempting to transport the jewelry out of Cyprus.”
Lefteris Kyriakou – Assistant Police Director of Limassol
The stolen property, valued at over 300,000 euros, was identified by the Russian couple who had fallen victim to the robbers.
The suspects, who according to the police are believed to have orchestrated the break-in at the mansion, returned a short time later after failing to steal anything on their first attempt, after first filling up with gas and buying duct tape from a convenience store, and took the Russians by surprise. Threatening them with knives and a gun, they managed to steal money and jewelry and then fled. After gathering information and witness statements, investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division proceeded to arrest the six suspects, while they are searching for three others, whose identities have been made public.
