Regarding social media posts about an incident involving a minor in Paphos, it should be clarified that the allegations that the police failed to respond are not true.
The police responded immediately and went to the scene, and proceeded to investigate the incident with the assistance of members of the Hope For Children organization and an interpreter to ensure communication with the family.
The investigation revealed that the child, aged two, was ill, exhibiting a fever and flu-like symptoms, which explained his prolonged crying. At the same time, no evidence of abuse or neglect of the child was found.
It is entirely legitimate and necessary for citizens to express their concerns and notify the relevant authorities when they believe a child may be at risk.
It is, however, inappropriate to publicize such incidents and draw arbitrary conclusions without first verifying the facts. Such practices may lead to the unfair targeting of individuals and families, while also creating false impressions about the work of the relevant authorities.
The protection of children is a non-negotiable priority. However, the same applies to respect for the dignity and privacy of every family.
