A 35-year-old man from Serres found a 2.1-centimeter piece of glass inside the bagel he was eating. In fact, the piece of glass lodged in his tongue and the roof of his mouth, resulting in the 35-year-old being taken to the hospital in Serres for first aid after he was injuredand was bleeding from his mouth.
The shocking incident occurred last Wednesday, October 21, and as his lawyer, Dimitris Golemis, the bread roll was purchased from a bakery operating in the city of Serres, and “it is part of a chain, as it has other bakeries as well.”

“Things could have turned out even worse, as my client bought the bread ring for his 3-year-old child to eat. The child ate about half the bread roll and left the rest. So the father decided to eat it, and suddenly he felt the piece of glass in his mouth; fortunately, he didn’t swallow it at the last moment. “He was injured inside his mouth because the glass cut both his tongue and his palate,” said Mr. Golemis, adding, “Imagine if the child had swallowed it.”
The shard of glass measures 2.1 × 0.6 centimeters, as shown in the photo, and ultimately caused the injury to the 35-year-old, who rushed to the hospital in Serres to treat the oral bleeding.
“We have the receipt and have sent a formal notice to the bakery company informing them of the incident, but so far we have not received a response. We will appeal to all relevant authorities, including the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET), because food safety is a very serious public health issue. “What matters to us at this stage is protecting the rest of the public (i.e., consumers), and of course we will take legal action on all fronts—administrative, civil, and criminal,” concluded Mr. Golemis.
