A 73-year-old man’s return to his village in Elis for the olive harvest ended tragically. The elderly man, who had traveled from Athens, was found dead at noon on Saturday (October 24) in his olive grove in the Aspra Spitia area of the Municipality of Ancient Olympia.
According to reports, he had gone to his field early that morning to harvest the olives by himself. He had brought the necessary equipment with him, had spread out the olive-picking mats, and had begun harvesting.
Shortly before noon, he was found unconscious under an olive tree, lying on top of the olive-picking mats, with the olive-picking tool he had been using next to him, according to Pelop News.
The exact circumstances of his death remain unclear at this time. Initial assessments suggest he may have lost consciousness due to medical causes, though this has not yet been confirmed.
The Ancient Olympia Police Department is conducting a preliminary investigation into the case to determine the circumstances under which the 73-year-old man lost his life.
