Itsaki: “The crowd gave us a big boost”—Okkas focused on one-on-one battles

What the two coaches had to say

Anorthosis defeated Omonia Aradippou 2-0 at the “Freedom Antonis Papadopoulos” Stadium in the seventh matchday of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan.

After the match, the “Lady’s” coach highlighted the support from the fans that helped secure the victory, while also making special mention of the fact that they kept a clean sheet for the first time this season.

On the other hand, the visiting team’s coach noted that it was a game decided largely by one-on-one battles and defensive marking.

Highlights of what was said:

Barack Itzagi (Anorthosis): “It wasn’t an easy game for us. We had the chance to score the first goal, and that helped us open up the game a bit. In matches like this, however, the most important thing is the win, especially when you’re coming off a streak of games without a positive result.

We played at home and felt the support of the fans, who gave us a huge boost.

Equally important is the fact that, for the first time this season, we kept a clean sheet. This is something we want to build on moving forward.

I want to commend my players for their hard work and dedication. It wasn’t easy, as we only had three and a half training sessions to work together.  I believe we can improve and grow as a team and reach the level we want.”

Yiannos Okkas (Omonia Aradippou): “We expected a tough game against a team trying to make a fresh start. That was evident from the very first minutes, as Anorthosis came out strong in one-on-one battles. It was a game that was largely decided by individual duels and defensive marking.

I’d say that for about twenty minutes, we held our own quite well. Unfortunately, though, I have to admit that of all the games we’ve played so far, this was perhaps our weakest performance. We inevitably lost 2-0, with the second goal coming in the final minute.

We’ll keep moving forward, as we have a Cup match coming up very soon. We need to recover properly and prepare adequately, since a difficult stretch lies ahead.”
