AEK is wrapping up its preparations today for tomorrow’s match against PAOK at Toumba for Matchday 4 of the Superbet Cup (8:30 p.m.). AEK is looking for a win that will put them within striking distance of the top four—which would spare them a round in the knockout stage—while even a draw would give them the upper hand in advancing to the quarterfinals.
Marko Nikolić is planning several lineup changes, as matches against Panathinaikos at OAKA and Real Madrid in Nea Filadelfia are coming up. As for the two players born in 2024 or later who must be in the starting lineup per regulations, Alexiou is considered a sure bet for the center of the defense, while Balamotis in goal and Kaloskamis in the attacking midfield are vying for the other spot.
Beyond that, changes are expected. Marin, who got a breather in the last match against Panetolikos, and Ariaga have a good chance of forming the central midfield duo. Alongside Alexiou will be either Vida or Mukundi, while Lykoiannis is likely to take the left-back position, with Georgiev a candidate for the right side. Mayer, returning from suspension, may rejoin the starting lineup, as may Jović, while Koutesa and Zubkov are in contention for the wing positions.
