Desperate appeal for Bruno: He has been missing for 17 days—here’s what his guardian is reporting

A reward is being offered for information leading to the location of the dog that went missing on monday
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The Animal Action Group is making an urgent appeal to the public to help locate Bruno, a male beige dog, 8–9 months old, who has been missing since October 12, 2026, in the Deftera area of Nicosia.

Bruno is wearing a red collar, and his guardian is offering a reward for information leading to his whereabouts.

What Bruno’s guardian reports

On October 12, 2026, Bruno left the home where he was staying and was spotted by a resident in the community of Deftera. The resident then notified the Community Council so that arrangements could be made to take the dog into custody.

According to a complaint filed by Bruno’s guardian, the person called upon by the community to take charge of the dog’s capture is cooperating with the relevant local authority. As she reports, Bruno escaped during the pickup process and has been missing ever since.

The guardian states that she notified the Anthoupoli Police Station about the incident. The circumstances of the incident must be investigated, and the relevant information must be evaluated by the competent authorities.

The guardian is devastated and anxious about the fate of Bruno, whom she has cared for since he was practically a newborn. Despite her efforts, the dog has not yet been located.

We are calling for an immediate and thorough investigation

The Animal Action Group calls on the relevant authorities to:

  • To investigate the circumstances surrounding Bruno’s capture and escape.
  • To determine what actions were taken after his escape to locate him.
  • To investigate any potential liability of those involved and to disclose the results of the investigation, as well as the measures that will be taken.

“This case highlights, once again, the need for municipalities and communities to have the necessary equipment and properly trained staff for the safe capture and management of animals,” it states.

“The management of stray animals cannot be handled haphazardly nor left to the goodwill of individuals. Clear procedures, training, responsibility, and accountability are required. Local authorities must ensure that every animal roundup is carried out safely.”

He also notes that a similar incident was reported in June in the Municipality of Latsia–Geri, where a dog escaped from its enclosure.

Urgent Need to Create Regional Shelters for Stray Animals

The creation of regional shelters for stray animals is now an urgent necessity for Cyprus. Beyond finding temporary shelter spaces, there is a need to establish organized and licensed facilities in all districts, with appropriate living conditions, adequate funding, and specialized staff.

At the same time, we urge all pet owners to ensure that their dogs wear a collar with an ID tag, which should include the animal’s name and the owner’s contact number, as well as electronic identification via a microchip. Proper identification can play a crucial role in ensuring an animal’s safe return home.

We ask anyone who has seen Bruno, knows where he is, or has information regarding his disappearance to contact his guardian immediately.

Any information could prove crucial. Please share this appeal so that we can all help Bruno return safely to his family.
