Shock at olympiacos: Montero underwent surgery and will be sidelined for 6 months

A major blow
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Olympiacos is in shock over the status of Jan Montero’s injury.

According to a statement released by the “red-and-white” basketball club on Friday evening (10/30), the Dominican guard underwent surgery today to repair the medial meniscus in his left knee, which will sideline him for the next six months!

This is a massive blow for the Greek and European champions, who are losing one of the key players players on their roster for such a long period, with the 23-year-old explosive guard essentially missing not only the regular season but also the EuroLeague playoffs.

In Montero’s six games in Europe’s top league with the “Red-and-Whites,” he averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 20.3 points in the efficiency rating, proving to be a highly influential player for Giorgos Bartzokas’s team despite having been with the squad for only a few months.

According to journalist José Nina Tejada, who broke the news on Twitter, Montero underwent surgery on Friday (October 30), with Olympiacos BC confirming the development shortly thereafter.

As the journalist from the Dominican Republic reported, the initial estimates—which called for arthroscopy and a recovery time of about one month—did not reflect the severity of the situation. In fact, before the decision to undergo surgery was made, he had undergone treatment with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), but without the desired results. According to the same report, the injury reportedly worsened, ultimately leading to the decision to proceed with surgery.

“Before the decision to undergo surgery, the player had received platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, which did not produce the expected results. The injury appears to have worsened, which is why surgery was ultimately chosen,” the reporter noted.

The official statement reads as follows:

“Jean Montero underwent surgery today to repair the medial meniscus in his left knee. He is expected to be sidelined for six months.

The entire Olympiacos BC family wishes Jean a quick and smooth recovery and looks forward to seeing him back on the court.”
