Regarding the relationship his mother had entered into with the 43-year-old man of Syrian origin—who, as he ultimately confessed, her murderer, the son of 61-year-old Olga Vasilieva gave a statement to investigators at the Limassol CID.
The young man, who resides permanently in Russia, arrived in Cyprus yesterday and went to the Limassol Police Headquarters this morning, where he gave his statement. According to reports, he spoke about the relationship his mother had begun about five months ago with the 43-year-old confessed perpetrator, whom she met at a café.

His mother, with whom he was not in daily contact, had told him about her relationship with the perpetrator, and it appears she had sent him a photo of him when she had snapped a picture of him with her dog. A photo that her son had sent to her lawyer when he was informed that she had gone missing.
In fact, the young man had stated from the very beginning that the 43-year-old was demanding 70,000 euros from his mother for a car accident in which he was involved, as compensation for the driver of the other vehicle. According to reports, he had expressed concern to his mother about her relationship, suggesting that the 43-year-old might be trying to take financial advantage of her, and that she had offered to return the ringhe had given her as a gift, in order to help him.

Authorities searched the 61-year-old woman’s vehicle in the presence of her son, from which they collected evidence for analysis. They are also searching for a sum of money that the victim allegedly withdrew before her murder and whether it ended up in the perpetrator’s hands.
The 43-year-old’s rage is evident from the results of the forensic examination conducted yesterday by medical examiner Nicholas Charalambous, who was unable to determine the exact number of blows to the face inflicted by the hammer. Investigators collected evidence from the scene where the perpetrator threw the body into the drainage ditch; he allegedly doused it with bleach to prevent it from being detected by its odor.
