Cablenet is investing in next-generation technology to deliver even faster (multi-gigabit) Internet speeds throughout Cyprus

In partnership with harmonic, cablenet is modernizing its broadband network

Fast, reliable Internet is no longer a luxury. It’s what keeps homes running, businesses connected, and families close—no matter where they are. Customers expect their connection to work seamlessly, at all times. And rightly so.

With this very goal in mind, Cablenet is making a significant new investment in its network.

Cablenet Communication Systems PLC (“Cablenet”), the second-largest fixed-line provider in Cyprus and one of the leading providers of bundled fixed and mobile services, has selected Harmonic’s advanced cOS broadband services platform™ to modernize its Internet access network. The new technology enhances Cablenet’s ability to offer Gigabit speeds, simplifies network operations, and contributes to a better, more stable connectivity experience for its customers.

The investment is part of Cablenet’s “New Era of Connectivity” strategy, through which the company is strengthening its infrastructure with the goal of offering a substantially better experience to its customers.

“The true impact of modernizing a network is seen in the difference it makes in our customers’ daily lives,” said Panagiotis Kouloubridis, Chief Core Networks Officer at Cablenet. “Harmonic’s cOS platform enhances our network, which is based on DOCSIS 3.1+ technology and its latest advancements, allowing us to offer fast and reliable Internet that our customers can count on today and in the future, with a clear path to even higher speeds. “For us, the Internet simply has to work the way the customer needs it to, every single moment.”

Faster Internet Today, Ready for Tomorrow

Customers don’t need to know how a network works to enjoy its benefits. Simply put, the upgrade replaces some of the traditional equipment with more flexible, software-based technology, while bringing key network elements closer to the homes and businesses it serves.

By leveraging Harmonic’s cOS platform and a modern network architecture with distributed access (Distributed Access Architecture – DAA), which includes the energy-efficient Oyster nodes, Cablenet can significantly increase

available speeds and upgrade its services more efficiently as customer needs change.

In practice, this means boosting the Gigabit speeds customers currently enjoy, as well as the ability to introduce even higher speeds in the future.

Because the cOS platform is software-based, it also offers Cablenet greater flexibility for the continuous evolution of its network, as part of its long-term strategy that leverages different technologies.

A simpler and more efficient network

A better network isn’t just a faster network. It’s also a network that operates more efficiently.

The cOS platform supports Cablenet’s plans to consolidate its data centers and simplify its network infrastructure as part of a broader effort to optimize operating costs.

By migrating network functions from traditional hardware to a modern software platform, Cablenet can reduce its space, power, and cabling requirements, lower operating costs, and make network operations simpler and more efficient.

Smarter monitoring, faster support

When a problem arises, what matters most to the customer is that it be resolved as quickly as possible.

By transitioning to the cOS platform, Cablenet gains access to Harmonic’s network monitoring and analytics capabilities, which leverage artificial intelligence through the Harmonic Central platform. As a result, Cablenet’s teams have a better understanding of network operations, can identify potential issues more effectively, and resolve them more quickly.

The result is more efficient network management and even greater reliability in the services enjoyed by Cablenet’s customers.

A Partner with Proven Expertise

According to the Dell’Oro Group, an internationally recognized research and analysis organization in the telecommunications and technology markets, Harmonic holds a leading position in the market for cable broadband network equipment, virtual CMTS, and DAA.

Harmonic’s cOS platform supports next-generation broadband services through more than 48 million customer devices worldwide, serving leading providers in North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

“Service providers need practical solutions that allow them to upgrade their services today while maintaining the flexibility to evolve their networks for the future,” said Stefan Meier, Vice President of Sales, Europe, at Harmonic. “The cOS platform provides Cablenet with a strong foundation for modernizing its network, simplifying its operations, and delivering an even better broadband experience. We are pleased to support Cablenet’s long-term strategy and its commitment to offering faster and more reliable connectivity, thereby enhancing its customers’ experience.”

Investing in What’s Next

This new investment marks another step in Cablenet’s New Era of Connectivity, where infrastructure development goes hand in hand with improving the customer experience.

Cablenet will continue to invest in next-generation fixed and mobile telecommunications infrastructure so that the connection its customers rely on is fast, reliable, and available whenever they need it.
