This development marks a historic step toward the modernization of funeral services in Cyprus, ten years after the initial introduction of legislation on cremation in the Republic.

Having secured the zoning permit, the company is now moving forward with the next stages of the project’s development, with construction expected to begin in September 2026 and the project to be completed in approximately 18 months.

The incinerator will be built in the Agia Varvara area of Paphos and will be the first fully licensed incineration facility in the Republic of Cyprus.

Once operational, the facility will offer a modern, dignified, and environmentally responsible alternative to traditional burial for families who choose cremation.

At the same time, the project is expected to meet a long-standing need of both Cypriot citizens and the international community residing on the island, many of whom until now have been forced to travel abroad for cremation services, facing significant costs and complex administrative procedures.

“We are particularly proud to have reached this important milestone and to be bringing a service that has been long awaited in Cyprus,” said Maureen Watt, Director of Angel Guardians Funeral Home and spokesperson for GLCC.
