The Thanos Hotels & Resorts group, as part of its long-standing commitment to responsible and sustainable hospitality, participated on Friday, September 25, 2026, in the Cyprus-wide initiative “Tourism Cares: Unite for a Cleaner Destination,” in observance of World Tourism Day. Group staff members actively participated in cleanup activities, contributing to the collective effort to protect Cyprus’s natural heritage and raise environmental awareness.

The initiative, supported by the Pan-Cyprian Hoteliers Association (PASYXE), was organized by the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI) as part of the program “Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic-Free – Destination Zero Waste Cyprus and Greece,” and was held under the auspices of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. This initiative has seen growing participation and a tangible environmental impact: from 60 businesses and organizations and more than 1,650 participants in 2024, it reached 75 businesses and organizations and more than 2,250 participants in 2025, with 2.3 metric tons of waste collected, compared to over 1.5 metric tons the previous year.

Through its participation this year, Thanos Hotels & Resorts became part of this broader mobilization of the Cypriot tourism sector, which brought together hotels, diving centers, local authorities, environmental organizations, businesses, and local communities. At the same time, as part of the cleanup efforts, the adoption of “Plastic Free” practices was encouraged, such as the use of reusable gloves, containers, and water bottles instead of single-use items.

For Thanos Hotels & Resorts, participation in “Tourism Cares” is part of a broader corporate social responsibility approach, with an emphasis on protecting the environment and supporting the local communities in which it operates. For the Group, sustainable hospitality extends beyond the practices implemented within its hotels and is linked to active participation, collaboration, and shared responsibility for the preservation of the natural destinations that are an integral part of Cyprus’s identity and tourism experience.
