Skroutz, Greece’s most popular marketplace, recorded a 62% increase in orders and a 58% increase in revenue from Cypriot consumers’ discount purchases during this year’s summer sales, compared to the same period last year.
The average consumer spent around €101 per order, keeping their shopping cart at the same level as last year, while the average total spending over the entire sale period saw a slight 4% increase, reaching €151.
The days with the highest shopping activity were recorded toward the end of the sale period, with Friday, August 28, and Monday, August 31, being the peak days; meanwhile, in terms of geographic distribution, orders were directed to Limassol (35%), Nicosia (34%), Larnaca (17%), Paphos (9.5%), and Famagusta (4%).
The categories that stood out
Consumers chose to spend more money on products in the “Technology,” “Fashion,” and “Health & Beauty,” while the highest percentages of discount purchases were recorded in “Fashion” (25%), the “Home Appliances” category (20%), and “Technology” (16%).
At the same time, the “Auto-Moto” category (126%), “Books” (115%), and “Home Appliances” (102%).
The average discount rate was close to 11%. It should be noted that the categories with the highest average discount rates were “Fashion” (16%), “Skroutz for Business” (13%), and “Children’s and Baby Products” (12%).
Delivery and Payment Preferences
Speed and flexibility in delivery are steadily gaining ground, with consumers increasingly taking advantage of Skroutz Hub and Skroutz Points. More specifically, orders placed via Skroutz Hub increased by 158%, while 46% of orders were delivered to a Skroutz Point.
Regarding payment methods, card payments remained the dominant choice among consumers at 78%, followed by Revolut (21%) and cash on delivery (1%).
The Growth of Cypriot Businesses
Cypriot merchants partnering with Skroutz significantly expanded their reach during the summer sales, broadening their customer base. 73% of the orders fulfilled by Cypriot businesses came from consumers in Greece, while 27% were orders from the domestic market in Cyprus, confirming the marketplace’s potential as a growth tool for local businesses.
