ALFAMEGA Supermarkets held the graduation ceremony for the fourth class of the Butchers’ Academy, once again reaffirming its long-standing commitment to investing in people, education, and the development of professions that bring real value to the Cypriot market.
The Butchers’ Academy is an initiative of ALFAMEGA Hypermarkets, implemented in collaboration with Intercollege’s Culinary Arts programs and the Training and Development Unit of the University of Nicosia (UNIC), with the aim of training new and current professionals, meeting the needs of the labor market, and preserving the butcher’s trade.
The eight-week program is offered free of charge and combines comprehensive theoretical and practical training, while also offering the opportunity for certification under the National and European Qualifications Framework (CyQF/EQF Level 4). The theoretical courses are held at Intercollege’s facilities, while the practical training takes place in the state-of-the-art Central Butchery Laboratories of ALFAMEGA Hypermarkets, providing participants with knowledge and skills that are directly applicable in the job market.
Since the initiative’s launch in 2022, a total of 48 participants have successfully completed the Butchers’ Academy, contributing significantly to the development of a skilled workforce and the strengthening of a profession that is a cornerstone of the food retail sector in Cyprus.
This year’s graduation ceremony was held at Discovery Hall at the University of Nicosia, in the presence of representatives from ALFAMEGA Supermarkets, the University of Nicosia, Intercollege, instructors, graduates and their families, the Minister of Labor and Social Insurance, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OEB), the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEVE), and the Pan-Cyprian Butchers’ Association, at an event dedicated to the effort, progress, and importance of vocational training.
Investing in education and the continuous development of people is an integral part of ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets’ philosophy. Through initiatives that link education with employment, the company creates meaningful opportunities for professional growth, enhances employability, and actively contributes to shaping the future of key professions.
The Human Resources Director of ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets, Mr. Marios Antoniou, stated:
“At ALPHAMEGA Supermarkets, we believe that true growth begins with people. The Butchers’ Academy is a substantial investment in the knowledge, skills, and career prospects of our people.
