At a splendid graduation ceremony held on June 23, the University of Nicosia School of Medicine awarded degrees to graduates of the Medical (MD) program, as well as those from the postgraduate programs in Family Medicine and Public Health, in the presence of academics, dignitaries, and relatives and friends of the graduates from around the world.

A highlight of the ceremony was the conferral of an Honorary Doctor of Science (in Medicine) to the internationally renowned physician and researcher Professor Eric Topol, founder and director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute in the United States. In his inspiring speech, Professor Topol highlighted the pivotal role that artificial intelligence will play in shaping the future of medicine. At the same time, he emphasized that empathy, trust, and the human relationship between doctor and patient will remain irreplaceable elements of medical practice.

The Dean of the School of Medicine, Professor Adonis Ioannidis, congratulated the graduates on their dedication and perseverance, while the Rector of the University of Nicosia, Professor Filippos Pougioutas, emphasized that the new graduates are now part of a strong international alumni network that contributes significantly to the advancement of health and society, calling on them to continue learning and serving with integrity and responsibility.

The Minister of Health, Mr. Neophytos Charalambides, pointed out that, despite rapid technological advances, the quality of care will continue to be based on scientific knowledge, integrity, and a human approach.

During the ceremony, the “Peter Kopelman and Andreas Charalambous” Founders’ Award of the School of Medicine was also presented for the highest academic achievement, while the new doctors recited the Hippocratic Oath, marking their official entry into the medical profession.

The event concluded with a reception in honor of the graduates, highlighting once again the international character of the University of Nicosia’s School of Medicine, as well as its mission to train healthcare professionals who will shape the future of medicine worldwide.
