The Association of Greek Professionals in Cyprus honored Greek business during a unique evening attended by representatives of the business, banking, and institutional communities of Greece and Cyprus.
The event, titled “Greek Entrepreneurship in Cyprus: Current Reality and Prospects,” featured as its guest of honor and keynote speaker the Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Haris Theocharis, who highlighted the strategic convergence of the two countries, emphasizing that bilateral economic and investment relations are at their peak and must now be viewed through the lens of a single economic space and geopolitical stability.
In his remarks, SELEK President Konstantinos Daltas emphasized the Association’s commitment to serving as a bridge for networking and empowering the Greek business community and executives of Greek-owned companies in Cyprus, while also leveraging the institutional framework of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).
As part of the event, two panel discussions were held, moderated by SELEK Vice President Mr. Konstantinos Kosmas.
The first panel was titled “Investments, Financing, and Development,” and the discussion between Deputy Minister Haris Theocharis and the CEO of the National Bank of Greece (Cyprus) and founding member of SELEK, Mr. George Agioutantis, the dynamics of bilateral trade and investment were analyzed. Particular emphasis was placed on the transformation of banks into strategic business advisors, on available liquidity, as well as on the need to attract mature and sustainable investment projects in cutting-edge sectors such as energy, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and technology.
The second panel was titled: Strategic Cooperation Between Greece and Cyprus in a Changing Environment, and Mr. Theocharis spoke with Mr. Yiannis Georgoulas (Non-Executive Director of EcommBX, member of the Board of Directors of Societe Generale Bank Cyprus, and founding member of SELEK). They examined synergies between supervisory and institutional bodies, the interconnection of capital markets, as well as the vital strategic importance of the electricity interconnection for the region’s energy security and stability.
The event concluded with the presentation of an award to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Haris Theocharis, who was presented with a commemorative replica of the historic “Ship of Kyrenia,” by the President of SELEK, Mr. Konstantinos Daltas, the Greek Ambassador to Cyprus, Mr. Konstantinos Kollia (honorary member of SELEK), and the Secretary General of KEVE, Mr. Filokypros Rousounidis.
In fact, Mr. Theocharis emphasized, “It is very moving, because the modern reconstruction of the Kyrenia ship was carried out by my brother’s godfather, the archaeologist Haris Tzalas. It has personal significance for me; thank you very much.”
The Greek Ambassador expressed his support for SELEK’s work, assuring that Greek entrepreneurship has a steadfast ally in the diplomatic mission, as well as Mr. Rousounidis, who confirmed the CEBE’s full support for strengthening the Association’s members’ international outreach.
SELEK (selek.cy) is an independent, nonprofit professional association based in Nicosia, which brings together Greek professionals and businesspeople active in Cyprus and operates under the auspices of KEBE. Its goal is to strengthen their presence, promote networking and collaboration, and ensure the association’s effective representation in dealings with the government and public authorities.
