With a sense of deep emotion and unspeakable respect, the Kokkinochoria Evening High School – Kokkinochoria High School and UCLan Cyprus announce the official release of the documentary “Journey to Famagusta.” A co-production that transcends the boundaries of audiovisual creation and becomes a sacred pilgrimage to beloved lands.
The documentary is a moving mosaic of history, memory, and cultural heritage. It does not merely record events; it brings to life the voices that have fallen silent, the footsteps that came to a violent halt in its sand, and the memories of a life cut short. Through this audiovisual testament of the soul, the urgent need to preserve our personal and collective narratives is highlighted, before they fade with time, keeping the flame and hope alive.
The realization of this project was made possible thanks to the invaluable contribution of educators, academics, and many people who believed in the importance of this endeavor. We express our special gratitude to the residents and local organizations, who, by opening the wounds of their uprooting, entrusted us with their most sacred heirlooms: rare archival material and yellowed photographs, reverently preserved for decades.
We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for sharing with us these fragments of their own personal history. Together, they form an open letter to Famagusta, the city that refuses to be forgotten and patiently awaits us.
