"Tetraktys Films" announces that the preparation of Volume I of the two-volume monumental publication *Voices and Memories of Asia Minor and Cyprus. They Are Not Erased, They Are Not Forgotten,” researched, written, and edited by Dr. Chrysanthos Chrysanthos and coordinated by Stavros Papageorgiou.
Volume I, comprising 768 pages, following thorough research in Cyprus, Greece, and Asia Minor, is rich in primary archival material, rare photographs, and authentic testimonies. Its pages highlight Cyprus’s long-standing relationship with Asia Minor, particularly with the cities along the southern coast of Asia Minor—Antalya, Alanya, Mersin, and others.
A special place is reserved for the story of the people of Asia Minor who, following the catastrophe of 1922, found refuge in Cyprus—either temporarily or permanently—making the island their second home. Among them was Anastasis Tosounoglou from Alaya, who put down roots in Cyprus, started a family, and left behind a fond memory.
Throughout the book’s chapters, the historical, religious, educational, commercial, and social ties between Cyprus and Asia Minor are explored, the life of the Greek community in Alaya, the events that led to the catastrophe, the arrival of refugees in Cyprus, the ordeal of quarantine at the Dekelia sanatorium, the care they received from Cypriots who rushed to their aid, and the difficult struggle for a new beginning.
As noted by the researcher, author, and editor of the publication, Dr. Chrysanthos Chrysanthou, Asia Minor and Cyprus followed “parallel paths,” sharing common roots in Greek culture as well as the painful experience of displacement. The contributors’ hope is that the publication will serve as a “modest ark of historical memory.”
The book is intended for all those who carry family memories of displacement, as well as for researchers, scholars, and readers who wish to gain a deeper understanding of an important aspect of the shared history of Cyprus and Asia Minor. The abundance of material led to the decision to prepare a second volume, which is expected to be completed by 2027.
