With a large turnout and great interest, the new cycle of the Subsidized Butcher Training Program began on Monday, May 18, 2026, for the fourth consecutive year, the new cycle of the Subsidized Butcher Training Program, reaffirming its significant contribution to the development of specialized professionals for the industry with promising employment prospects. The program is an initiative of ALFAMEGA Supermarkets, which is implemented in collaboration with Intercollege’s Culinary Arts Programs and the Training and Development Unit of the University of Nicosia.
Now established as one of the most important vocational training initiatives in the butchery sector in Cyprus, the program offers comprehensive training and makes a substantial contribution to meeting the needs of the labor market while preserving a profession of enduring value. Through the program, participants acquire specialized knowledge and skills in a sector with high demand for trained personnel
The program is fast-paced and designed to provide comprehensive vocational training so that, upon completion, participants are effectively prepared to enter the labor market. It combines theoretical training and practical experience, with classes and lab exercises held in the state-of-the-art facilities and labs of Intercollege and ALFAMEGA Hypermarkets, under the guidance of qualified instructors and experienced professionals.
To date, all graduates of the program have secured employment in the industry, while some have even gone on to start their own businesses. This success confirms the program’s effectiveness and demonstrates the importance of the initiative by ALFAMEGA Hypermarkets, Intercollege’s Culinary Arts Programs, and the Training and Development Unit of the University of Nicosia in supporting society.
Upon completion of the program, participants will be eligible to receive a certificate under the National and European Qualifications Framework Level 4 (CyQF/EQF Level 4), gaining a significant professional advantage and improved employment prospects both in Cyprus and in other European Union countries.
The Butcher Training Program is supported by the Pan-Cyprus Butchers’ Association and represents a substantial investment in the development of specialized professionals, thereby making a significant contribution to preserving and strengthening a profession that is vital to the food sector.
