PASEU PEO is calling for a 24-hour strike next Monday, October 5, noting that it demands clear answers at today’s meeting, at 1:30 p.m., with the Minister of Education.
In a statement issued today, PASEU states that, to date, they have received no response regarding the payment of unemployment benefits or salaries to the EEA employees of the Support Programs, who have now gone four months without income. At the same time, it adds, despite the announcements of EEA positions for the KIEs, the positions are being filled through overtime work by permanent teachers. “A practice that, according to the bill, is not provided for and for which the Ministry of Education, once again, is acting unlawfully.”
A handful of employees with many years of service in all-day schools have been left without work due to the EEA process, while others are being given overtime work, the union notes, stating that this cannot continue and that they demand immediate and clear answers at today’s meeting with the Minister of Education.
As part of the strike, a protest rally will be held at 10:00 a.m. outside the Presidential Palace
